The small non-institutional nature of the houses, coming together at mealtimes, the communal sitting room and summer house and the programme of social activities ensure companionship from fellow residents, staff and volunteers.
Residents have their own private room
or two room flatlet, which is furnished by the resident. The rooms are
centrally heated and are fitted with en-suite wash basins, toilets and,
in some cases, showers. Each room is equipped with a call alarm and an
entry phone. There are stair-lifts to all floors, and "medic" baths in
addition to conventional baths and showers. Residents have the use of
the lounge, dining room, laundry, garden and summer house. They are free
to come and go as they wish and to receive visitors at all times. Guests
can be entertained at any time and a guest room is available for short
stays by relatives and friends.
A housekeeper is resident at all times. She, or another staff member, provides the midday and evening meals which residents take together in the dining room. Residents provide their own breakfast.
